Meet Dr. Martin Kim

Dr. J.W. Martin Kim is a native of Vancouver who studied abroad for a number of years to pursue his goal of becoming a periodontist. Upon completion of secondary school, he attended McGill University (Montreal, QC) for his Bachelor of Science in microbiology and immunology. Subsequently, Dr. Kim continued his study at McGill University Faculty of Dentistry to receive his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD). During dental school, Dr. Kim developed a passion for periodontics and decided to become a periodontal specialist.

His persistence and hard work to become a periodontist resulted in numerous scholarships, journal publications, and distinction awards in periodontics and related specialties, such as the prestigious award from the American Academy of Periodontology. After graduation from dental school, Dr. Kim studied at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, USA) to receive his certification in periodontics. Once his studies had been completed, Dr. Kim returned to British Columbia to practice as a certified periodontist in Richmond.

In conjunction with his private practice, Dr. Kim is also a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia, and has been invited to lecture at various conferences for dentists. Currently, he is the director of the two Metro Vancouver dental implant study clubs, where Dr. Kim furthers the knowledge of general dentists on implant dentistry and periodontics, and is a member of the Quality Assurance Committee of the College of Dentists Surgeons of BC.

Dr. Kim is a certified specialist as a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada [FRCD(C)] and a board-certified periodontist in the U.S. (Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology), with active memberships with the Canadian Academy of Periodontology, American Academy of Periodontology, Canadian Dental Association, and BC Dental Association.
